Location

Queen’s University is situated south of Belfast city centre in the Queen’s quarter, a leafy residential area. Located beside the city’s Botanical Gardens and the Ulster Museum. It is also located within easy reach of the other attractions including City Hall, Stormont Buildings, Titanic Quarter and the Cathedral Quarter. The University is ideally located only 32km from Belfast International airport and 165 km from Dublin city.

 

About the College

Founded in 1845, Queen's opened in 1849 when the first students entered the magnificent new college building designed and built by Charles Lanyon. Since then, the University estate has grown to more than 300 buildings - many of them listed for their architectural importance. The first batch of students numbered 90. Today there are some 24,000. In 2001 the college launched a £150 million redevelopment of the campus that has completely transformed the facilities available to the students today. The University's Chancellor is former United States Senator, George Mitchell.

 

Accommodation

Accommodation is provided in Elm’s Village a modern low rise development completed as part of the University’s modernisation programme. It consists of 11 single-ensuite rooms on each floor with a well fitted kitchen/living room. The bedrooms are spacious and have a large wardrobe, a desk with lamp and chair. The apartments are in 3 storey blocks.

 

Sport & Recreational Facilities

The college is ideally situated to take advantage of many of Ireland’s most loved attractions for full or half day excursions. Queen’s University also boasts one of Ireland’s finest Physical Education centres which includes, fitness suite, two storey climbing wall with bouldering cave, swimming and diving pools with poolside sauna and viewing gallery. It also houses sports halls for badminton, basketball, football, volleyball and table tennis, 10 squash courts and 2 handball/racquetball courts. There are also many playing fields for outdoor games.
